3 Key Steps for a Beautiful Lush Lawn Next Spring: Aerate, Compost, Overseed (Part 3)
This is the third and last installment of our blog series on "Fall lawn care for a lush Spring lawn." Read about the aeration and fertilizing with compost to learn about the full process.
STEP #3 TO A LUSH AND HEALTHY LAWN – Overseed Thinning Areas and Brown Patches
The best time to overseed your lawn is after its been fertilized with compost. The natural nutrients in the compost make for the perfect bed to lay new seed.
WHAT IS OVERSEEDING
Overseeding is the practice of laying new turfgrass seeds in your yard without damaging the existing lawn. This process helps to fill in bare patches of your lawn and improves the overall density of grass in thinning areas.
THE BENEFITS OF OVERSEEDING ARE NUMEROUS:
Protects from insects and disease attack
Improves tolerant to drought and heat
Defends against weeds and invasive issues as it creates a substantial barrier to the soil
Enhances the turf density and coloring
Controls erosion
THE SPREADER AND RAKE METHODS
At Indresano, we most often combine the spreader and rake methods to install new turfgrass seeds. The motorized spreader covers the lawn uniformly with seed. Then our crew goes in manually to add extra seed to bare patches and other areas requiring more attention.
IN CONCLUSION
Aerate, Compost, and Overseed: Implementing this 3-step process is your key to a healthy and lush lawn. You will reap the benefits in the Spring, of the work that you sow in the Fall. By May, you’ll be the envy of all your neighbors with a thick beautiful lawn under your feet.
